At the time, I was planning to be a feature writer or a development executive (not that I had any clue what that was), and WP was writing mass market young adult books for pennies.
Okay, not quite pennies.
But pretty close to pennies.
We were clueless. Beyond.
I can't speak for WP's parents, but my parents were terrified, and sure I would be moving back home -- with a heroin addiction and a giant 'F' for failure stamped on my forehead -- in a matter of months.
And that may well have happened... if it weren't for our friend TS.
TS is a friend from high school. He moved to L.A. a few years before we did, and when we landed in town he had already moved beyond the assistant ranks and was just starting his career as a literary agent. He got me my first job as an actress's assistant. And when WP and I finally got our you-know-what together and started writing, he got us our first agent.
What I'm trying to say is, he's a great guy and a better friend.
So when I got an email this morning announcing that after many, many years of hoping and waiting, he and his wife are finally the proud parents of a little boy and a little girl, ages three and a half and two, newly adopted from Russia, I was completely overwhelmed.
I'm so happy for them, and I can't wait to meet their son and daughter.
They'll be home just in time for Christmas.
