I went to see my RE (reproductive endocrinologist) today, and my uterus is completely all better!
Which was great to hear, of course.
Then, this afternoon, it suddenly hit me that-- what with my healthy uterus, and all-- I could try to fit in an IUI this week.
I have a follicle that's about to pop (well, in the next couple days) and since I won't be able to do IVF until mid to late May... I mean, why not?
Of course, this means that I have to choose a new sperm donor. Immediately.
So I spent a long time tonight searching and searching and searching online... and there are a couple of real possibilities. Unfortunately, one has a history of manic depression in his family, and I don't think that's a risk I want to take. Which leaves one other option, and he has very few vials left. Arg!
How much would it suck if I call in the morning and there are no vials available from the one donor I really want?
Wish me luck. More tomorrow...
good luck! yay for your perfectionist, and now also perfect, uterus!

Good luck! I really hope this works for you! Just had my 4th laparoscopy and they cleaned out my uterus, too. Unfortunately, my tubes aren't as clean so I have to do IVF. Best wishes that it all works out this time! (and even if you don't get your perfect donor, think of it like a relationship: sometimes you put up with a few pesky qualities because the good out weighs the bad :)

Happy Healthy Uterus Day!!!! (I'm thinking of doing up a line of greeting cards for Hallmark).
I have to agree with Beth on the "perfect donor". I don't think there is such a thing. DEFINITELY weed out any with questionable medical history. Now, obviously you don't want a donor who is 4' 9" with bright red curly hair....unless of course you have people in your family who look like that and you'd love to have it.
I have no ideas the things you know about the donors and what you can choose from but I'm thinking ANY that you handpick are going to be equal in good/bad qualities to a guy you might meet and marry.
Whatever donor you choose will be great and a baby from that donor will be great....because it will be your baby!
I'll be praying for this IUI. I think it's time for this to happen. :-)
Blessings!

we are all aboard the baby train but ixnay the manic depressiveay. number one positive is you and your all better ute, which brings to mind two scenes in my cousin vinny. you are also right about meeting/marrying a guy who's medical history (skeletons) was not high on the list of things to ponder when 'the other stuff' seemed to work so well. personally i think any guy who made people magazine's most sexiest man cover should make some deposits for the future. it's the least they could do.
p.s. you should make sure charlie sheen never made the cover- as that would be the crazy train.
pick us a winner!

Chris, one of my best friends is unusually short -- 4'7". And there is nothing more beautiful than bright red hair. People pay big bucks at the colorist for that.
I don't know why you feel the need to say that "obviously" nobody would want such (undesirable) physical characteristics, unless people in their family have these (undesirable) characteristics.
That is very different from screening for a family history of manic depression. I find your comments disturbing and judgmental.

Just have to say, I understood Chris comment to be light-hearted, so I didnt read it as judgmental at all. I actually found it particularly funny because Im quite fond of red-heads! My step-mom is always saying When are you going to give me a little red-headed grand-baby?

Actuary, I apologize but you took that the totally wrong way. I DO NOT think any of those characteristics are undesirable. I only said short with red hair because Sarah is neither of those. It was meant in the same way had I said she probably doesn't want someone 9 feet tall who's totally covered in fur. She might want some physical characteristics that resemble her family or maybe a good friend. Who knows.
I have 6 kids and 8 grandkids and they ALL look different. None actually look like me or my husband. They are all beautiful though.
With that said. If I EVER had the chance to pick one thing about my own child it would be that they HAVE red curly curly hair. Height, doesn't matter to me at all.
Anyway, I'm sorry you took what I said the wrong way. Maybe I could have worded it a differently. I think all of God's children are beautiful regardless of their physical characteristics.

I don't often comment on blogs, but I'm saddened by the attitude toward manic-depression here. It suggests that those with mental illnesses are undesirable. My friends who are bipolar or depressed are some of the most beautiful people I know, in some ways because of their illnesses--which make them strong, compassionate, grateful, exquisitely sensitive people with unique experiences and invaluable insights on living and suffering.

since i said 'ixnay' on the manic depression i will clarify for Crazy Nutbar. first, i never suggested a person with these disorders would be undesirable. we were discussing choices, before they became people, given the choice. i would think most people on this blog know someone who has a mental illness, i certainly do and they are thankful for medications, therapists, support groups, family and friends and yes, they are all the things you mentioned above: 'strong, compassionate', etc., but there is plenty of the other word you mentioned: 'suffering.' No one would choose that for their child. second, we all need to lighten up. i'll start. CN, i'm sure you are a cherished friend.

Well said, Jerie. I, too, have family members with mental illness-- and I would not choose to put anyone I love through the enormous difficulties mental illness entails if I could avoid it. Its the same reason I avoid donors with Alzheimers in their family history. My grandmother had Alzheimers and my mother has it now. If I can lessen the chance of passing it on to my child by choosing my donor carefully, thats what Im going to do. That choice doesnt diminish the value of those with mental illness, nor does it diminish the value of my mom and grandma. Its just a choice Im making to try to protect my (theoretical) future child.
